Welcome Trojans!
Dear Students and Parents- As the principal of Catalina Magnet High School, it is my honor to be of service to this community. Our caring and dedicated staff is ready to do all that we can to help each of our students to thrive and grow. Catalina's students have a lot of people on their side here...but all of our efforts will amount to nothing if students do not put in the time and work they must invest to ensure their own success. Students, if you budget your time by doing simple, but smart things like using a planner and setting aside a designated time each night to do homework, review lecture notes or skim through your textbook, you will be on the way towards achieving the goals you have set for yourself. You must also ask questions of your teachers when you are confused or uncertain. They are here to help you, but they can't read your mind. Take the time to visit teachers before or after school, especially when they teach a subject that is challenging for you. Another terrific gift you can give to yourself is to be a reader. Students who read on a regular basis do better in school because they are continually exposing themselves to the thoughts and ideas found in books, magazines and on the Internet. Reading widely also helps you to decide what your own values and beliefs are. Parents, it is tempting when your child reaches the high school level to take less interest in their school work because your child is older and more mature. However, they need you to continue your caring and vigilance. I also encourage you to stay in regular contact with teachers, especially if you have concerns about your child's progress in a particular subject. This is my 20th year working in education and this job is the fulfillment of a career-long dream. What makes me aware of how lucky I am each day, is the chance to work alongside Catalina's students and families. I want to hand each one of you a Catalina diploma when your time here is done. My commitment to helping you achieve that laudable goal is total and sincere. The same is true for every other adult at our school. However, the most important person in making sure that happens is the student! Sincerely, Rex Scott Principal
