Become a Volunteer Reading Coach

Reading Seed LogoReading Seed Children's Literacy Program recruits, trains and places volunteer reading coaches in more than 50 TUSD Elementary Schools (and throughout Pima County). Volunteers spend just one hour per week working one-on-one with children in 1st, 2nd, or 3rd grade who are reading below grade level. The coach's job is to make reading fun and interesting, helping students move towards becoming independent readers who are excited about learning! Volunteers choose a convenient day and time and select a school from among the 35 schools that need new coaches. A FREE 3-hour training is all it takes to get started. Reserve your seat now!

Become an Oasis Intergenerational Tutor

OASIS Intergenerational TutoringThe OASIS Intergenerational Tutor Program in Tucson Unified Schools offers exceptional training for active adult volunteers who want to help a child be successful in school.

  1. Tutor the same child throughout the year one-on-on for one hour a week.
  2. Free tutor training provides the knowledge and techniques needed to successfully work with a child.
  3. Free materials and supplies as well as on-going support from TUSD staff.
  4. You choose a participating school.
  5. No teaching experience required, just a desire to make a difference in a child's life!
  6. Help a child build:
    1. reading and language skills,
    2. self-esteem, and
    3. positive attitudes toward school
