Four students and two teachers from Townsend K-8 School will arrive at Tucson International Airport on Thursday, June 9th at 3:30 pm (Southwest) from a 2 week visit to Ulleungdo, South Korea.

The purpose of the trip was to strengthen the relationship and understanding between students in Tucson and Ulleungdo by having them directly experience what it is like to attend a middle school in each other’s countries and live with families from their cultures. The students, Melody Cifuentes, Leslie Kenney, Isabelle Rodriguez, and Hope Stancliffe, and teachers, Deanna Campos and Rosie Garcia, spent the first week of their trip attending classes with the Korean students at Ulleungdo Middle School, staying with Korean host families and touring the picturesque and remote island of Ulleung. They spent the second week visiting key sites in the eastern region of Korea and in Seoul, the capital. The visit was co-sponsored by the Mayor’s office of Ulleungdo and the school community of Townsend K-8 School.

This is the third year of TUSD’s successful Tucson Korea Ambassador Program. Each year 20-30 students from Ulleungdo and Shinangun, South Korea attend Townsend and Safford K-8 Schools as part of this meaningful global exchange partnership.
