Tolson Elementary School to Unveil Time Capsule During Decade Festivities

Students and staff at Tolson Elementary School, 1000 S. Greasewood Road, will unveil a time capsule buried in 2000 at 10:00 a.m. February 23, 2010 as part of a decade celebration running from February 17 through February 24 at the school.

Buried 10 years ago in the school’s south playground, the capsule will be opened by former Tolson students who are now in high school. Musical entertainment will include Mariachi Aguilitas de Davis, from Davis Bilingual Magnet School, as well as, the Cholla High Magnet School band. Both groups performed during the festivities held in 2000.

Invited guests include Dr. Elizabeth Celania-Fagen, Superintendent; Teri Melendez, Director of Elementary Schools; Maggie Shafer, Assistant Superintendent of Elementary Schools; Frank Armenta, Principal, Cholla High School; Yolanda Nuñez, Principal, Maxwell Middle School; Former Superintendent George Garcia; Regina Romero, Ward I Council Member and former Tolson administrators and students.

Tolson is seeking alumni and former teachers who were at Tolson in the year 2000.

Activities scheduled throughout the week include a door design contest, an essay contest and a Tolson student/parent dance.
