It is recognized that head lice infestations are considered by public health as a nuisance condition. The Governing Board of the Tucson Unified School District believes it is necessary to remain pro-active in the management of head lice in the following three areas.

  • Preventing the transmission of head lice
  • Notification of an infestation
  • Proper treatment of an infestation

Students will be removed from the classroom and sent home with the parents for treatment when they are infested with head lice or viable nits. Students will be readmitted after they have been adequately treated at home.
