The Tucson Unified School District Governing Board recognizes that smoking presents a health and safety hazard that can have serious consequences for the smoker, nonsmoker, and the welfare of the District.
In order to protect students and staff members from a harmful environment, the Board prohibits possession or use of tobacco products in the following locations:
For purposes of this policy, smoking shall mean all uses of tobacco.
TUSD employees are prohibited from the use, or possession, of tobacco products while performing the duties of their positions away from District property. This includes, but is not limited to:
Under the provisions of A.R.S. 36-798.03, a person who violates the prohibition is guilty of committing a petty offense. Failure to comply with this policy may subject the employee to disciplinary action, including termination.
The prohibitions do not apply to an adult when possession or use of the tobacco products are for demonstration purposes as a necessary instructional component of a tobacco prevention or cessation program that is:
