The Board recognizes the advantage of acquiring land prior to development and encourages the acquisition of school and support facility sites for future needs in accordance with the recommendations and help of zoning commissions.
A site selection committee will make recommendations for sites. This committee's selection will be made from only those sites determined to be feasible for development based on an environmental assessment and review by the Engineering, Facilities and Planning Department. Purchases shall be made in keeping with the appraised price from at least two certified appraisers.
The site selection committee is appointed by the Superintendent to recommend a site for a new school or support facility.
A competent engineer or architect must approve the site from the standpoint of construction and drainage.
A guide for the size of school sites based on approved national standards is 10 usable acres for elementary sites; 20 usable acres for junior high sites; and 40 usable acres for high school sites; however, when topographical conditions dictate variances in these recommendations the land may be purchased with Board approval.
