The Governing Board of the Tucson Unified School District recognizes that the depletion of virgin natural resources, lack of suitable sites for landfills, and the potential adverse environmental consequences arising from landfills, all justify increased efforts to reduce the amount of materials in the District's waste stream, utilize products that can be used more than once, and procure products that contain recycled content. The Governing Board also recognizes that such efforts can reduce or slow the rising costs of energy, space and pollution associated with manufacturing and solid waste disposal.
The Governing Board further recognizes that the District's procurement practices can have a significant effect on the local market for recycled products and influence the practices of other local public and private enterprises.
In recognition of the above, the Governing Board adopts this this Policy EDA (formerly Policy No. 3751) - Efficient Paper Utilization, to buy recycled products and reduce paper waste. The Administrative Regulation for this policy shall prescribe procurement, waste reduction and reporting procedures to implement this policy.
