Information for the New School Year
We're excited for a great new year, and we hope you are, too! Here's information to help you get ready for the first day of school:
Welcome from Dr. John Pedicone
The energy and excitement that accompanies the beginning of the school year is with us once again.
We share in the anticipation that our tens of thousands of TUSD families experience with the start of each year and we are honored to serve our community's children.
We are working hard every day to make improvements to deliver the quality education you expect from us. We are dedicated to making every decision with students in mind and hope you are seeing the progress that is happening.
There are several new programs and initiatives that have been implemented over the past few months to support our TUSD students and families and to keep us moving in the right direction.
Here's a glance at a few of the advancements we have made to reinforce our commitment to delivering excellence:
We're ready for a new year of learning!
- We made rigorous instruction a priority. More than 4,000 teachers and administrators have been trained in the Essential Elements of Instruction – a dynamic staff development program designed to instill effective instructional practices across the district.
- We adopted a new mathematics and English language arts curriculum that is based on Arizona Common Core State Standards. The curriculum is designed to prepare students for success in the classroom and on state assessment tests.
- We improved our transportation system to get every student to school safely and on time.
- We upgraded technology across the district and in our schools by successfully qualifying for federal E-Rate money to overhaul our infrastructure system and replace 7,300 aging school computers.
- We launched a plan to improve customer service throughout the district to provide a high standard of care for families.
The strides the district is making are rooted in the promise to do what is right for our students.
