Maintenance & Repairs - Carpentry Shop
Carpenters
The Carpenter Shop consists of many diverse team members. Our team is made up of carpenters, roofers, and tile setters.
Our function is to maintain and repair all TUSD facilities; providing a safe environment for teachers to teach and students
to learn.
The journeymen carpenters are responsible for all interior and exterior structural repairs. This includes but is not
limited to:
- Exterior structural repairs/replacements (fascia, beams, siding, doors, thresholds, sweeps, window and door jambs)
- Interior repairs/replacements (cabinets, countertops, interior doors, gang restroom partitions and doors, chalk boards,
bulletin boards, movie screens, maps, stage rigging, vertical blinds, black out shades, termite damage, drywall repair, etc)
- Construction (new cabinets, countertops, offices, re-models of portable classrooms, new floor underlayment, new roof
sheathing, etc)
- Expedite solutions to Facilities related problems (they are not limited in their responsibilities by their job description)
The journeymen roofers are responsible for but not limited to:
- Roof maintenance
- Roof repairs (clay tile, asphalt shingle, built up hot mopped roofs, metal roofs, rubberized roofs, etc)
- Trimming trees that overhang the roofs
- Fascia replacement (with, and sometimes without the help of a carpenter)
- There are over 100 sites in TUSD. When it rains the roofers chase leaks, sometimes with the help of carpenters and the
building inspector (depending how severe the leak problems are)
- The roofers are knowledgeable in the installation of all types of roofs
- Expedite solutions to Facilities related problems (they are not limited in their responsibilities by their job description)
The surface materials technicians (tile setters) are responsible for but not limited to:
- Repair/replacements of carpet, vinyl composite tile, linoleum, ceramic
- The tile setters are knowledgeable in the installation of new flooring in large areas (libraries)
- They work with teachers and administrators on flooring designs
- Expedite solutions to Facilities related problems (they are not limited in their responsibilities by their job description)
