GATE services include self-contained programs for grades 1-8 and block classes for high school students. Self-contained programs may be full or part-time.
Self-Contained Programs for Grades 1-8
Self-contained programs provide the academic curriculum
for qualified students. Students in elementary and middle school
self-contained classes receive their entire instructional program
under the supervision of teachers certified or endorsed in gifted
education. Students in middle school block classes are enrolled
in four core classes: language arts, social studies, science and
mathematics, and in additional elective classes consistent with
the middle school program.

Part-Time Programs for Grades 1-8
Part-time services include the GATE Pull-out program
at all elementary schools. Students participating in the GATE Pull-out
program receive approximately 30-90 minutes of direct service per week
from itinerant GATE teachers.
Part-time GATE resource programs are available at all middle schools. Programs typically consist of one class period daily. Parents should consult with their neighborhood middle school or the GATE office to determine program options.
High School GATE Block
GATE block classes for English and Humanities are offered at
all neighborhood high schools for students in ninth and tenth grades.
The GATE block typically consists of one hour of English and one
hour of history, Western Civilization freshman year and Non-Western
Civilization sophomore year. High school students may register for
GATE block classes through the registration process. High school
counselors should be consulted for information on participation
in GATE block classes.
