Gifted and Talented Education

About Us

The Gifted and Talented Education program offers services for gifted or potentially gifted students.

The GATE program provides instructional services for approximately 4,800 students each year in grades 1 through 10. Over 110 staff members teach in full-time or part-time GATE positions. Over 5,000 students take the GATE test each year.

TUSD recognizes that gifted students have special educational needs that should be met within the context of educating the whole child through a variety of services and options. Each of these options should be available on a district-wide basis.

The role of the Gifted Education program is to:

  • Identify the particular abilities and needs of these students.
  • Challenge students functioning at the highest level of ability.
  • Encourage underachieving students who are capable of the highest performance.
  • Promote higher level creative and productive thinking skills throughout the district.
  • Promote creative or productive achievement.
