TUSD to hold public presentations on projected 2013 budget

The public is invited to attend presentations about Tucson Unified School District’s annual budget on Feb. 15, 20, 21 and 27. The presentations are being held to inform parents, community members and interested taxpayers about the budgeting process and how monies will be spent for the 2013 fiscal year in each of three budget areas.

TUSD Chief Financial Officer Yousef Awwad will present information about how the 95 schools in the district are supported through formula-based funding, how local and state taxes are factored into the budget, and how discretionary funding decisions are made.

"There are many challenges before us in building the budget for 2013; however, we are committed to provide the most we can to support our schools and to enhance our technology infrastructure that is the foundation for any instructional or operational improvements," says Awwad. "We want our community to understand how we get funded and the limitations we have on using these funds by either state or federal government."

The presentation schedule is as follows:

  • Feb. 15, 6:30-8 p.m.: Catalina Magnet High School Auditorium, 3645 E. Pima St.
  • Feb. 20, 6:30-8 p.m.: Sahuaro High School Auditorium, 545 N. Camino Seco
  • Feb. 21, 6:30-8 p.m.: Pueblo Magnet High School Cafeteria, 3500 S. 12th Ave.
  • Feb. 27, 6:30-8 p.m.: Rincon/University High School Auditorium, 421 N. Arcadia Blvd.

TUSD's projected budgets for the 2013 fiscal year are:

At the completion of each presentation, there will be a question and answer period.
